Fellow Fashionista: Sally-ann Moffat

You've got to love Twitter: connecting fashionistas across the globe as they tweet recent purchases and style dilemmas. This is exactly how I met Wellington-based stylist, Sally-ann Moffat. We're still 'virtual' buddies but it's great to know I can recommend her savvy style services to clients travelling to New Zealand (and believe me, she's worked in all areas of the industry so is a true go-to girl). You can find Sally-ann hosting Style Session shows and Style Secrets Shopping Tours in her local Westfield, and styling for personal, photography and commercial clients. And her shopping secret? "Outside the CBD our nearby suburbs conceal some of the very best designer shopping experiences you can imagine. You just need to know where to look…."

Fellow Fashionista: Andrea Tonkin

This is one lady on my must-meet list. Introducing Andrea Tonkin, a Perth-based stylist who has made a chic home for herself at MYER Perth City. Armed with no formal training, Andrea proves that the best stylists have an innate sense of style, colour, proportion, balance; an all encompassing love of fashion and compassion for her clients. Known for rustling up the odd outfit from scratch, Andrea can also be found scouring op shops when not at her MYER post Tuesday through Friday. Citing Vivienne Westwood's quirky ethos, George Gross and Harry Who's classic design and Ellery's modern touch as inspiration, Andrea's personal style eclectic or as she says "like a Chameleon". Put this fabulous lady on speed dial to show you the ins and outs of west-side cool.

MBFWA: Fashion Week cometh

Another year and just as winter tightens its grip on our wardrobes the future spring/summer collections of Australasian designers are presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA). Attending in 2013 as personal stylist and writer, I'll be starting the week with Camilla and Marc and taking in the likes of Bec and Bridge, Manning Cartell, Kate Sylvester, Alice McCall, Michael Lo Sordo, Eastern Pearson and many more. I'll also be heading backstage to check out model preparations including hair and beauty looks that will act as a trigger for the season to come. Join me at fashion week across a host of social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, where I'll be posting my favourite looks from fashion's biggest week.

Fellow Fashionista: Laura Stead

It is quite magical when two 'kindred' stylists meet: you feel you've know each other forever and can wax lyrical together about your favourite designers and industry gossip. Such is my relationship with Brisbane's Laura Stead who I luckily get to catch up with every time I return to Queensland for holiday. Only recently retiring as fashion editor of the Courier-Mail and Qweekend magazine, Laura's been styling for almost 10 years and now perfects her art on the masses at Westfield Chermside and through various freelance projects. An eclectic style, Laura cites Brisbane's milliners as her city's best kept secret - look our for Felicity Boevink, Meredith McMaster, Paula Walden and even the odd design from Stead herself. Sharman Says on Autumn Fashion

Well here we are again, autumn. I have to admit that I do love the cooler months...to live in that is, it's just the warmer months I cherish for holidays and days off. And so, as we bid a fond farewell to summer, stores around the country are filling their shelves with tailored, knitted and layered treats and I've picked the best of the first drops of the season for Business Chicks Latte magazine (p32 & 33). From block colour to leather, hounds tooth to vintage-inspired sparkles, we return to a more classic look this season where 'fit' is King. I'm looking forward to streamlining my wardrobe this autumn and returning to my favourite colour combination; black and navy, teamed with black boots for Frenchy chic.

Sharman Says on Shopping New-Season

I'm finding it hard to come to grips with the fact that summer is over in two weeks, yep O.V.E.R. Where did it go? Apart from a couple of ridiculously hot days where fashion was thrown out the window it seems to have passed me by. And just when you begin to long for those perfect summer days enter the autumn/winter collections. Tweet-spotted in the March issue of Shop Til You Drop (p193) I claim Paris, London, New York and Honk Kong my shopping meccas for my pick of new-season hits. A reality check means I turn to the glorious world of online for the best of the new and the best of the 'on sale'. Favourites include; ASOS, Maximillia, M&S, Net-a-Porter, Topshop, Liberty and Revolve.

Sharman Says on Celebrity Style

I'm no Joan Rivers (yet!) but I do enjoy a good grilling of celebrities wearing what they think is fashionable and if you know me well you know I'm happy to give my two cents on just about anything. Enter GRAZIA and my favourite section ever 'Fashion Jury' and I'm not just saying that because I've wanted to appear in it for SO long (wink wink). Now, here's what you do: go and buy this week's GRAZIA with Miranda Kerr on the cover and turn to p42 for three (yes three!) pages on me dishing the dirt and giving out gold stars to celeb looks - let me know what you think of my verdict on wishy-washy Anne Hathaway and cute-as-a-button-wrapped-as-a-present Marion Cotillard.

Sharman Says on Working a Room

The new year not only brings with it resolutions but new opportunities and if you seek more confidence at work then this is the article for you! Grab the February issue of CLEO and turn to p188 for tips to help you 'work a room' - including one from yours truly on 'the perfect fit'. There really is nothing quite like that perfectly structured blazer, comfy trousers or slimming dress that makes you feel amazing; when you're not worried about what you're wearing you relax and no doubts means uber-confidence. Your best bet is to not only purchase the correct size but invest in tailoring which can be as simple as going to your dry-cleaner or alternations specialist in your local shopping centre.

Sharman Says on Sportswear Fashion

I think I have Freddie Mercury to blame for this one. As those iconic images of his yellow jacket, white trousers with the red stripes down the side and Adidas trainers rocked the stage of Wembley in 1986, I remember thinking that was the definition of sports-fashion cool. Decades on we still love wearing sportswear as fashion and if you turn to page 32 of today's The Daily Telegraph you'll find my commentary on the very subject as more and more celebrities join the Adidas bandwagon. Personally I'm a fan of limited edition jackets and sneakers, especially designer collaborations or anything with a touch of neon - these two pieces alone you can easily work alongside your current wardrobe as trackies can be hit or miss unless you're Gwen Stefani (a la 'No Doubt' era).

Sharman Says on Summer Fashion

If you haven't heard of the wonderful Business Chicks, take note and make this your New Year's resolution! Much more than a savvy women's networking group, Business Chicks is a community of like-minded women who, through events, editorial, forums and social networks, share their experiences and knowledge. I was introduced to the group five years ago and was thrilled when they asked me to compile the first ever fashion pages for their quarterly magazine Latte. As Fashion Editor, each issue I compile the best looks of the season, must-have buys and interview a stylish designer whose business is thriving. Business Chicks Premium and Corporate Members are lucky to receive Latte but you can also find it in Qantas Clubs around Australia.
